I wander aimlessly among the cars meandering down a black, ribbon road,
I am a mere wisp to those in the cold metal boxes
Nothing just a passing shadow cast before them
I am as they are to me,
Invisible
Strangers take no notice of my passage,
Mine is just another face in the milling herd,
Nothing, just a face with no identity
I am as they are to me,
Invisible
A little girl with bouncing blonde curls clutches a doll,
Eyes, still red from crying, search the faces passing by
No one notices as she steps onto the road
She is as I am to them
Invisible
The sickening sound of squealing brakes,
A scream of shock, a wail of pain,
Crimson blood pooling out over the black, ribbon road
I am no longer,
Invisible
A circle of people stare down at my broken body,
Through their eyes my hope fades
One life taken; one life saved
I am no longer,
Invisible
Just another tombstone in a field full of graves
A carved granite rock to cast a shadow
No one glances as they pass
I am as they are to me,
Invisible
